Shanzhai Biennial

West Bund Art & Design 2016

As part of West Bund Art & Design and ArtReview Asia Xiàn Chǎng, Project Native Informant will re-stage Shanzhai Biennial’s epic video installation Shanzhai Biennial No. 2. Originally commissioned for ProBio, a group show curated by Josh Kline as a part of Expo 1: New York at Museum of Modern Art New York/PS1, Shanzhai Biennial No. 2 consists of Chinese model Wu Ting Ting lip syncing to a garbled cover of Sinead O’Connor’s Prince-penned Nothing Compares 2 U while wearing a sequined dress embroidered with a misspelled rendering of a Head and Shoulders shampoo bottle.

Xiàn Chǎng is curated for West Bund Art & Design by ArtReview Asia. Situated in public areas both inside and outside the fair, the program will feature works by both Asian and international artists, operating in a variety of media. It aims to present an overview of the most urgent and cutting-edge work in the field of art. West Bund Art & Design will award a special prize for one of the projects included in ArtReview Asia Xiàn Chǎng, selected by a committee of invited curators. The list of jurors, as well as the final winner will be announced in November 2016.
