In 2018 The Room takes place across an extended TV studio set on Fort Island for the daytime talk program, GOOD MORNING GCC (صباح الخير ج.س.س).
GOOD MORNING GCC (صباح الخير ج.س.س) uses the tropes of daytime talk shows commonly featured on TV stations across the Arab world alongside a reference to Nam June Paik’s “Good Morning Mr. Orwell”, Glenn O’Brien’s TV Party, Chris Burden’s commercials and other artists who have used television to potentially communicate to a wider audience.
Celebrity wedding singer and TV chef Suliman Al Qassar, an icon of food and performance, will launch the program on the opening night with a performative cooking demonstration in a stage design reflecting that of a behind-the-scenes backstage aesthetic. This televisual cooking station set piece will be the anchor for TV segments, performances, and parties over the following days of the fair.
The overall experience of the set will develop over the duration of the fair as the public are able to use it and interact with the props, furniture and scenography in an open way.
Founded in the VIP lounge at Art Dubai in 2013, the group has continued to address the shifting systems of power in the Gulf region and abroad.
During the fair, the installation is open to the public and will be accompanied by a programme of daily performances.
